Q: How can I find out what positions are available?

A: The Human Resources home page lists all current open positions. You can also click “Employment” on the County’s home page.

Q. How long does it take before I hear anything about a position I applied for?
A: The status of each position applied for is listed when you sign into your online profile. If a position is filled, a notification e-mail will be sent to the applicants who applied. The hiring process and time-line can vary for each position.

Q: Can you register a profile if no positions are currently posted?

A: Yes. You may register at any time and create a profile. However, you will need to apply for each position when it becomes available. Profiles can be continuously updated.

Q. Can I drop off an application or resume in person or submit one via U.S. mail, fax, or e-mail?

A: No. All applications must be submitted through our online website. We do not accept paper applications/resumes.

Q: Can I apply directly with the hiring agency?
A: No. All applications must be submitted through the Department of Human Resources online process.

Q: How long are positions posted?
: Posting dates vary. Positions are generally posted for a minimum of one week; however, there are times when a position is available for a longer timeframe or can be posted “Open Until Filled”.

Q: Do I need to upload my resume?
No. Uploading a resume is optional. However, we recommend you include a resume for each position you apply for.

Q: Can I upload more then one document?
A: No. Only one document can be uploaded when applying for a position.

Q: Will I have to take a test to be hired?
Some positions may require testing

Q: What is pre-employment screening?
If offered a position, all potential employees will be required to submit to a background check and drug test.

Q: I’m a college student, how do I apply for an internship with the County?
The County offers the Public Policy Fellowship Program. A posting will be made available online when recruiting for these positions. You will need register a profile and apply online.

Q: If I’ve worked for the County before, can I come back?
Anyone can apply for a position with Cuyahoga County.

Q: If I have prior service from another municipality, will it transfer if I become a County employee?
In most instances prior service time from another political subdivision of the State of Ohio will transfer once we have received verification.

Q: Does the Department of Human Resources hire for the City of Cleveland?
: No.

Q: Does the Department of Human Resources hire for Metro Health Hospital?

Q: Does the Department of Human Resources hire people with felonies?
Having a felony does not automatically disqualify a person from becoming hired by the County.

Q: Can the Department of Human Resources answer my questions regarding welfare benefits and food stamps?
